Union Based Initiatives
In addition to our adult basic educational services the CWE partners with a variety of labor management cooperatives to provide career ladder training and certification programs for both entry level and incumbent workers. These services ensure an upward mobility for incumbent workers while providing unionized employers with a stable workforce. After consultation with union and management, CWE staff assists in the creation of an industry specific curriculum, instructor recruitment, skills training and program administration. Often, public funding is sought in the form of economic development grants. These services are available to all affiliates of the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO.
Among the current CWE union based initiatives:
Artisan Baking Center with Local 3, Bakers Union (BCTWU)
Construction Skills 2000 (CS2K) with the New York Building and Construction Trades Council
Health Care Training Institute (HCI) with Local 1199 SEIU and CSEA
